2025 NBA Free Agency Preview: Ranking The Top Power Forwards Available

After previously ranking the top point guards, shooting guards and small forwards set to hit the open market this offseason, today we highlight the best power forwards up for grabs:

1. LeBron James / Los Angeles Lakers / Player Option:

Incredibly, LeBron is still posting All-NBA numbers. In the 42 games he played after turning 40 years old, James averaged 25.1 points, 7.8 rebounds, and 7.7 assists in 34.9 minutes while shooting 52.4% from the floor and 38.9% from 3-point range. (Only four other players in NBA history averaged even 10+ PPG at the age of 40: Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, Michael Jordan, Karl Malone and John Stockton.) LeBron's player option for next season is worth $52.6 million. However, he may choose to opt out and re-sign at a discount, clearing some cap space and allowing the Lakers to utilize their non-taxpayer mid-level exception.

2. Julius Randle / Minnesota Timberwolves / Player Option:

Randle started the season a bit slowly after being traded from New York, but kicked it into high gear after the All-Star break. He also played exceptionally well in Minnesota's victory over Golden State in the first round of the playoffs. All told, Randle finished the postseason averaging 21.7 points, 5.9 rebounds, and 4.9 assists on 50/39/88% shooting splits. His option for the coming season is $30.9 million. It's possible he opts in and extends with the Wolves.

3. John Collins / Utah Jazz / Player Option:

While Collins may not be quite as explosive around the rim as he once was, he has improved his jumper and is still an efficient offensive force. In 2024-25, Collings averaged 19.0 points, 8.2 boards and a career-high 1.5 three-pointers, while shooting 52.7% from the floor, 39.9% from downtown and 84.8% from the stripe. It will be interesting to see if Collins opts out of his $26.6 million player option for 2025-26.

4. Jonathan Kuminga / Golden State Warriors / Restricted:

Kuminga is coming off a wild roller-coaster of a 2024-25 campaign. He began the season as a starter before being bumped to the bench. Then, he missed most of January and all of February due to an injury. When he returned to action in early March, he was logging around 20 minutes a night off the bench. Yet, coach Steve Kerr made the controversial decision to boot him out of the rotation in the Warriors' first-round playoff matchup vs. Houston (Kuminga was a DNP-CD in six of the first four games in the series). However, due to injuries that left Golden State shorthanded, the 22-year-old had a chance to reclaim his rotation spot and made the most of the opportunity. Over the final four games of the Warriors' postseason, Kunming averaged 24.3 points and 1.8 treys on 55.4% shooting. Because he is restricted, Golden State can match any offer he receives this summer. This is an unpredictable scenario involving a supremely talented young player.
