2025 NBA Free Agent Rankings: Top 10 Shooting Guards
Share

Earlier this week, we kicked off the 2025 Free Agent preview by ranking the top point guards set to hit the open market this summer. Today, I break down the group of shooting guards expected to enter free agency.

1. Malik Beasley / Detroit / Unrestricted:

The Pistons were arguably the most pleasant surprise in the NBA in 2024-25, and Beasley was a big reason why. After bouncing around the league and playing for four different teams over the previous four seasons, Beasley inked a one-year, $6 million pact with Detroit last summer. He is now in line for a massive raise after scoring 16.3 points per game (the second-highest average on the team). Beasley shot a blistering 41.6% from downtown and shattered the franchise record for 3-pointers by 108. He knocked down 319 three-balls on the season, the second-most in the league (one behind Anthony Edwards) and the eighth-most in NBA history.

2. Quentin Grimes / Philadelphia / Restricted

After the Knicks traded Grimes to Detroit at the 2024 deadline in the deal that netted New York Bojan Bogdanovic and Alec Burks, QG appeared in just six games for the Pistons before being shut down due to right knee soreness. Last summer, he was surprisingly sent to Dallas in exchange for Tim Hardaway Jr's expiring contract and three second-round picks. Grimes had trouble carving out consistent minutes in Dallas, who shipped him to Philly in February. With the Sixers' roster decimated by injuries and the 76ers committed to tanking to keep their lottery pick, Grimes saw as many minutes and FG attempts as he could handle. And my goodness, did he make the most of it. In his first 23 starts for Philly, Grimes averaged a whopping 23.9 points, 4.8 rebounds, 4.6 assists, 1.7 steals and 3.2 made treys, while shooting over 49% from the field and over 40% from downtown. It will be fascinating to see what kind of offers he receives next month (will the Nets throw big money his way?) and if the Sixers match….

3. Cam Thomas / Brooklyn Nets / Restricted

Thomas enjoyed a breakout season two years ago, averaging 22.5 points per game. It was the largest increase in scoring from 2022-23 to 2023-24 of any player in the league (10.6 to 22.5 ppg). In the process, he joined Vince Carter and Kyrie Irving as the only players in Nets franchise's NBA history to register four or more 40-point games. In addition, Thomas finished tied with Anthony Edwards for the most 40-point games (four) by players age 22 or younger. He also committed just 1.9 turnovers per game, becoming the first Net ever to average 20.0+ PPG and fewer than 2.0 turnovers. However, Thomas was unable to stay healthy this past season, appearing in just 25 contests. In addition, although we know Cam can score, can he bring anything else to the table? Does he need to take 18+ shots a night to be impactful?
