2025 NBA Free Agent Rankings: Top 10 Point Guards
The start of free agency is less than two weeks away...
Remarkably, the NBA's Free Agency period is right around the corner. Beginning on June 30th at 6:00 PM EST, teams can initiate negotiations with free agents, although a moratorium remains in effect until July 6th, when clubs can officially sign players.
I'll begin my annual positional ranking of the top free agents set to hit the open market by listing the best point guards up for grabs:
1. James Harden / LA Clippers / Player Option:
Harden's player option is worth $36.3 million, which he is likely to decline after authoring another productive, all-around season. He was one of just two guards (and the only guard in the West) to average 20+ points, eight assists and five rebounds in 2024-25 and ranked third in the NBA in point-assist double-doubles (31). Harden is expected to remain in LA with the Clippers but will look to secure a new contract with more guaranteed money.
2. Kyrie Irving / Dallas / Player Option:
Irving boosted his stock in 2023-24 when he averaged 25/5/5 for the Mavs during the regular season and just missed qualifying for the elusive 50/40/90% club. And he was again posting impressive, efficient numbers this past season before tearing his left ACL in March. Considering Kyrie will miss most of the 2025-26 campaign, it is unknown if he will decline his $43 million option or opt-in and look to re-sign a long-term contract next summer when he is healthy.
