What Can Brown Do For You?
A deep dive into what we can expect from the Knicks' offense (and which players will benefit most ) under Mike Brown…
After a prolonged (and oft-criticized) search, the Knicks have reportedly found their new head coach.
Before we get into the X's and O's and an examination of how New York will operate differently next season, a bit of background on Mike Brown, who brought an undeniably impressive resume to the job interview.
First and foremost, the man is a winner, having compiled a career record of 454-304 in his nearly 20-year career (picking up two Head Coach of the Year awards along the way). Over the NBA's 80-year history, a total of 60 men have coached 700 or more regular-season games. Only seven have posted a higher winning percentage than Brown (and they are all Hall-of-Famers). He has also been successful in the playoffs (10 games above .500 for his career).
Consider this: There are only three head coaches in NBA history with multiple Coach of the Year awards and a career postseason winning percentage above .550%:
Pat Riley, Gregg Popovich and, yes, Mike Brown.
Furthermore, Brown is one of the most gregarious and media-savvy coaches in the sport, which is crucial in a massive media market like the Big Apple. And that essential attribute takes on even more importance with the Knicks, given the GM/President/front office's refusal to speak with the media. In New York, the head coach is THE voice of the franchise.
While success is certainly not guaranteed, if Brown fails to live up to expectations, it won't be because he can't handle the pressure. The bright lights of Broadway won't blind this dude.
