Knicks fail to protect the paint… Shamet re-injures his shoulder
Final Score: Knicks 121 - Magic 133
Record: 9-6
The Knicks got away with some poor play and putrid defense in Dallas on Wednesday night, escaping with a win. However, matched up against an aggressive and relentless Magic squad in Orlando on Saturday, New York had no such luck.
The Knicks hung close for most of the evening, but stood flat-footed as the Magic blew by them on the way to the basket and blew New York out of the building in the fourth quarter.
As has frequently been the case during the Knicks’ struggles over the past two weeks, the ‘Bockers scored plenty of points Saturday night, but were unable to get nearly enough stops on the defensive end.
Yes, it’s important to note that the team was without two of its best perimeter defenders. OG Anunoby remains sidelined by a hamstring issue, and Deuce McBride was unable to play Saturday night due to an illness.
In addition, Landry Shamet, who has been surprisingly integral to New York’s success this season, was injured in the first quarter. Unfortunately, Shamet appeared to have badly re-injured his right shoulder, which could have long-term ramifications on the roster (more on that in a bit).
But back to the topic at hand, New York’s defense, or lack thereof.
