Top 100 Fantasy Basketball Rankings for the 2023-24 Season - Training Camp Edition
With training camps set to get underway throughout the league early next week, here's the first crack at my annual overall rankings for the 2023-24 season. I'll amend and refine them as we get more information throughout the preseason before releasing a final "Tommy Beer Top-150 Overall" in October.
It's important to note that this ranking is based on nine-category (points, assists, rebounds, steals, blocks, 3-pointers, field goal percentage, free throw percentage and turnovers) roto scoring formats. I've added comments on a handful of players to explain the rationale behind their ranking.
1. Nikola Jokic (DEN - C): Joker is a rare consensus No. 1 overall pick
2. Joel Embiid (PHI - C)
3. Shai Gilgeous-Alexander (OKC - PG, SG)
4. Tyrese Haliburton (IND - PG, SG): I heart Haliburton
5. Jayson Tatum (BOS - SF, PF)
6. Luka Doncic (DAL - PG, SG) - His percentages and injury issues are a concern, but he did look to be in very good shape at the FIBA World Cup.
7. Stephen Curry (GSW - PG, SG)
8. Giannis Antetokounmpo (MIL - PF, C): The Greek Freak is coming off a disappointing and injury-plagued 2022-23 campaign, but expect a big bounce back playing alongside a highly-motivated Dame.
9. Kevin Durant (PHO - SF, PF)
10. Trae Young (ATL - PG): Didn't live up to expectations last season, but Trae led the NBA in total points AND total assists in 2021-22.
11. Anthony Davis (LAL - PF, C) - You know the deal with AD - could easily finish top-5 overall or sink your squad if he ends up on the shelf. I'm planning on rolling the dice this season.
12. Damian Lillard (MIL - PG): His scoring average and usage rate will dip playing alongside Giannis, Middleton and Lopez, but Dame's assists will increase, and he will still provide plenty of points and three-pointers with efficiency.
13. Devin Booker (PHO - SG, SF, PG)
14. Donovan Mitchell (CLE - PG, SG)
15. LaMelo Ball (CHA - PG, SG)
16. Domantas Sabonis (SAC - PF, C)
17. Jaren Jackson Jr. (MEM - PF, C)
18. Jimmy Butler (MIA - SF) - Boring pick. Good pick.
19. Mikal Bridges (PHO - SG, SF)
20. Fred VanVleet (HOU - PG, SG): The Rockets are paying him a ton, so he should have the ultimate green light (and his projected backup, Kevin Porter Jr., likely won't play this season after an offseason arrest.)
21. Kristaps Porzingis (BOS - PF, C): The big man is looking to show he can stay healthy and be productive during his debut season in Beantown.
22. Anthony Edwards (MIN - SG, SF): Breakout season incoming…
23. Desmond Bane (MEM - SG, SF): Expect him to post big numbers while Morant serves his suspension over the first six weeks of the season.
24. Kyrie Irving (DAL - PG, SG): Someone will reach Kyrie early, but that person won't be me.
25. Karl-Anthony Towns (MIN - C)
