Tommy Beer Top 150 Fantasy Rankings for 2022-23
With the start of the 2022-23 season just a week away, here are the final Top-150 Overall rankings.
Please note this ranking is based on nine-category (points, assists, rebounds, steals, blocks, 3-pointers, field goal percentage, free throw percentage and turnovers) roto scoring formats. I've added comments on a handful of players to explain the rationale behind their rankings.
1. Nikola Jokic (DEN - PF,C) - A no-brainer if you are lucky enough to land the top overall pick.
2. Giannis Antetokounmpo (MIL - PF,C) - Giannis has seen his FT% improve in three straight seasons. If he ever starts making 3PT% at anywhere close to a 35% clip...
3. Stephen Curry (GSW - PG,SG) - Steph's incredibly three-point production and his steady, consistent, predictable production are his calling cards.
4. Joel Embiid (PHI - PF,C)
5. Kevin Durant (BKN - SF,PF)
6. Jayson Tatum (BOS - SF,PF) - Played like a legit MVP candidate over the second half of last season.
7. Karl-Anthony Towns (MIN - C)
8. Luka Doncic (DAL - PG,SG) - Only a matter of time before Luka wins his first MVP, but his percentages and injury issues are worrisome.
9. Trae Young (ATL - PG) - Incredibly, Trae led the NBA in total points AND total assists last season.
10. Damian Lillard (POR - PG) - Dame is one of only two players in NBA history to record at least 1,500 points and 400 assists in each of their first nine seasons; Oscar Robertson is the other.
11. James Harden (PHI - PG,SG) - The Beard was the top-ranked fantasy player in back-to-back seasons in 2018-19 and 2019-20.
12. LeBron James (LAL - PG,SG,SF,PF) - Bron >>> Father Time
13. Paul George (LAC - SF,PF,SG)
14. Tyrese Haliburton (IND - PG,SG) - I heart Haliburton. He averaged 17.5 points, 9.6 assists, 4.3 rebounds, and 1.8 steals in 26 games with the Pacers while shooting over 50% from the floor and 42% from deep.
15. Devin Booker (PHO - SG,SF,PG)
16. Anthony Davis (LAL - PF,C) - The ultimate boom-or-bust pick. AD finished both the 2018-19 and 2019-20 seasons ranked second overall in nine-category fantasy formats but can he stay healthy?
17. LaMelo Ball (CHA - PG,SG) - I'm still not sold due to the scary percentages.
18. Jimmy Butler (MIA - SF,PF,SG) - Boring pick. Good pick.
19. Fred VanVleet (TOR - PG,SG)
20. Bam Adebayo (MIA - PF,C)
21. Chris Paul (PHO - PG) - Boring Pick. Good Pick.
22. Rudy Gobert (MIN - C)
23. Kawhi Leonard (LAC - SG,SF,PF) - Like AD, Kawhi carries a league-winning upside along with a season-crushing downside.
24. Domantas Sabonis (SAC - PF,C)
25. Bradley Beal (WAS - SG,SF)
26. Dejounte Murray (ATL - PG,SG) - I'd have Murray a lot higher if he was still with the Spurs (he finished 7th overall last season), but his usage rate is going to plummet playing alongside Trae.
27. Anthony Edwards (MIN - SG,SF)
28. Nikola Vucevic (CHI - C)
29. Kristaps Porzingis (WAS - PF,C) - Very well-rounded fantasy production when he's on the floor. KP finished inside the top 20 overall last season
30. Darius Garland (CLE - PG,SG)
31. Zion Williamson (NOR - PF) - Arguably the hardest player to predict coming into this season. He's looked fantastic this month.
32. Jrue Holiday (MIL - PG,SG)
33. Myles Turner (IND - PF,C)
34. Donovan Mitchell (CLE - PG,SG)
35. Khris Middleton (MIL - SF,PF,SG)
36. Shai Gilgeous-Alexander (OKC - PG,SG) - SGA is dealing with a left MCL sprain but it sounds like he's close to a return.
37. Kyrie Irving (BKN - PG,SG) - I'll let someone else gamble on Kyrie.
38. De'Aaron Fox (SAC - PG)
39. Pascal Siakam (TOR - PF,C)
40. Jarrett Allen (CLE - C)
41. Ja Morant (MEM - PG) - Ja is a far-better player in reality than fantasy at this stage of his career. He ranked 48th overall last season due primarily to his high TO rate, lack of 3PTs and defensive stats.
42. Zach LaVine (CHI - SG,SF)
43. Scottie Barnes (TOR - SF,PF) - Give me all the Scottie Barnes stock.
44. Deandre Ayton (PHO - C)
45. Terry Rozier (CHA - PG,SG) - Don't sleep on Scary Terry… He posted Top-30 overall production in 2021-22, and he'll likely see more scoring opportunities with Miles Bridges out of the picture.
46. Jaylen Brown (BOS - SG,SF)
47. Cade Cunningham (DET - PG,SG) - Love the talent, but he finished outside of the top 100 over the final two months last season. Need to see him cut down on the TO's and make some more 3PT's before I buy in.
48. DeMar DeRozan (CHI - SF,PF,SG) - Can he match last season's unexpected success? I'm not convinced.
49. Evan Mobley (CLE - C,PF) - Like most of the industry, I'm bullish on Mobley. You're probably gonna have to reach to snag him.
50. Brandon Ingram (NOR - SF,PF)
51. Jonas Valanciunas (NOR - C)
52. CJ McCollum (NOR - PG,SG)
53. Desmond Bane (MEM - PG,SG,SF) - Bane actually finished last season ranked higher than Ja Morant in nine-cat formats
54. Tyrese Maxey (PHI - PG,SG)
55. OG Anunoby (TOR - SF,PF)
56. Michael Porter Jr. (DEN - SF,PF) - Injury history is obviously a huge concern, but MPJ did shoot over 40% from downtown in each of his first two seasons. The only other active players to do that in each of their first two NBA campaigns (min. 100 3PT attempts) are the Splash Brothers: Steph Curry and Klay Thompson.
57. John Collins (ATL - PF,C)
58. Jamal Murray (DEN - PG,SG)
59. Jordan Poole (GSW - PG,SG)
60. Mikal Bridges (PHO - SG,SF)
