Should the Lakers Trade Russ Westbrook for John Wall?
The Lakers season is in danger of slipping away. Might they seriously consider trading away their major offseason acquisition?
The Los Angeles Lakers were beaten on Christmas by a Brooklyn Nets team playing without Kevin Durant, LaMarcus Aldridge, Joe Harris and Kyrie Irving. It was LA's fifth straight defeat, dropping them two games below .500 on the season (16-18).
The loss certainly can't be pinned on LeBron James, who racked up 39 points, nine rebounds, seven assists, three steals and a block. Despite the fact that LeBron will celebrate his 37th birthday later this week, he's still playing at an incredibly high level.
Over his last four games, James is averaging jaw-dropping 35.0 points, 9.8 rebounds, 5.3 assists, 1.8 steals and 1.3 blocks, while shooting over 58% from the floor and 80% from the free-throw stripe. Yet, the Lakers have lost each of those contests.
On Saturday, when James became the oldest player in NBA history to score at least 30 points on Christmas Day, LA outscored the Nets by nine points with LeBron on the court. They were outscored by 16 points in the eight minutes he rested.
On the opposite end of the spectrum, we have Russell Westbrook. Russ missed 16 of the 20 shots he attempted Saturday night, and LA was outscored by 23 points with Westbrook on the floor. Despite his offensive inefficiency and countless missed shots at and around the rim, Russ' most egregious and inexcusable error came on the defensive end.
