Return of the KAT
Towns is just the second player in NBA history to average 25+ points and 14+ rebounds over his first 25 games with a new franchise. The other is Kareem Abdul-Jabbar.
Final Score: Knicks 133 - Wolves 107
Record: 17-10
Speaking with reporters earlier this week, Julius Randle attempted to downplay the significance of Thursday's matchup between Minnesota and New York. However, it was apparent he was amped up early on. The former Knick attempted eight shots in the first six minutes of the contest and finished the first quarter with 15 points.
Yet, two hours later, when the final buzzer sounded, Randle sulked off the court, didn't shake hands with his former mates, and refused to speak with the media before leaving the arena.
Karl-Anthony Towns, on the other hand, was brutally honest in the leadup to the emotional showdown with his former club. "This place has given my family so much, not even from a financial aspect, but from a life aspect of the experiences we were able to have because of the organization and the things we were able to accomplish here," KAT said at shootaround Thursday morning. "Those are things that you can never discredit, you can never lose love for. I continue to see Minnesota as a home for me."
After the game, KAT was all smiles (donning a Cheshire grin, if you will), dapping up friends he had spent years with before conducting on-court interviews with MSG and TNT.
Towns has every reason to be exuberant. Not only had his team notched a dominant blowout victory, but KAT was the star of the show, racking up 32 points (on just 12 FG attempts!), 20 rebounds, six assists, two steals, and five 3-pointers.
Incredibly, Towns became the first and only player in history to tally 30+ points, 20+ boards, 5+ dimes and 5+ treys in a regulation NBA game.
I'd call that a decent night.
