Randle at the 5?
"We'll probably have to do it by committee," Thibodeau acknowledged... Are the Knicks targeting Portland's Robert Williams?
We hadn't heard a peep from head coach Tom Thibodeau or anyone in the Knicks front office all offseason, so we've been forced to speculate as to how New York will handle their lack of depth at center. That changed Tuesday when NBA.com scribe Steve Aschburner published a Q&A with Thibs.
There were a few interesting snippets, which we'll discuss below, but the most interesting bit of info was induced from Aschburner asking Thibs how the Knicks planned to deal with the loss of Isaiah Hartenstein via free agency.
"We'll probably have to do it by committee," Thibodeau replied. "We'll look at some different things because we have versatility — we could see Julius more at the 5. I don't want to do that for long stretches; it would take its toll, but to have him do it for 10 or 15 minutes, I think he can do it well. He also would create a lot of [offensive] advantages."
So, there it is. It looks like we'll get our long-awaited look at Randle playing the pivot.
