Nuggets No Match For OG and the Knicks
At some point, "small sample size" gives way to, "Hey, this guy next to these guys on this team might be pretty freaking good."
Final Score: Knicks 122 - Nuggets 84
Record: 28-17
In special seasons, there are special wins. And that's what the Knicks treated their fans to last night inside the World's Most Famous Arena.
To extend their winning streak to five on Thursday night, New York would have to knock off the defending champs. And they would have to figure out a way to slow down the best player on the planet, Nikola Jokic, without their two top centers.
Although Jokic finished with a solid stat line (31/11/3), Jericho Sims fared far better than Thibs and his staff could have hoped, making The Joker work for every point and every rebound. However, the Nuggets are far from a one-man show. In their victory over the Pacers on Tuesday, Denver PG Jamal Murray racked up 31 points, eight boards and seven assists. In a win over the Celtics in Boston last Friday, Murray scored a game-high 35 points with eight rebounds and five dimes.
Murray entered the Garden averaging over 25 PPG and shooting above 50% from the floor in Denver's previous eight games. However, last night, he was stranded on OG Island. Murray finished with nine points on 3-of-11 shooting. He didn't convert a single FG when defended primarily by Anunoby.
This brings us to the section of the newsletter where we gush about our guy OG.
Last night, in a game featuring a two-time MVP, a bunch of NBA champions, and several elite All-NBA talents, Anunoby was the best and most impactful player on the court.
