Blockbuster trades in the NBA are rarely a "win-win" for each team and player involved. Yet, in the three weeks since New York and Toronto swapped stars, RJ Barrett and Immanuel Quickley are enjoying individual success on a re-tooling Raptors squad, and the Knicks are loving their newest addition, OG Anunoby.
It was an emotional evening at the Garden on Saturday evening. There were lots of hugs and handshakes between former teammates while both clubs were warming up. Both RJ and IQ received rousing standing ovations during pregame introductions.
Earlier in the day, Quickley told reporters he was hoping not to cry. And while IQ was able to hold back tears, he and his fellow Raps couldn't hold back Jalen Brunson.
On a night where the storylines heading into the contest were about reunions and revenge, after the ball was tipped, the game (as has been the case with so, so many games since Brunson's arrival in NYC) became about one player's incredible ability to put up points and power his team to victory.
