Knicks News Round-Up
"I think Jalen is such a natural leader," coach Steve Kerr said. "He's the one who's leading the '1, 2, 3 USA' chant. Some guys just, it just comes naturally to them."
Plenty of interesting, recent Knicks nuggets to discuss, so let's dig in…
🏀 Jalen Brunson talked to the media quite a bit late last week as he was out in Las Vegas with Team USA preparing for the FIBA World Cup, which will take place in the Philippines, Japan, and Indonesia from August 25 to September 10.
Being a prominent member of the team representing America is undoubtedly a tremendous honor, but some Knick fans are worried that their point guard playing in the World Cup could lead to him being worn down before the 2023-24 season even starts.
However, Brunson has brushed aside those concerns. "I think it's another way to get ready for training camp," Brunson told the New York Post after practice Friday at UNLV. "You gotta look at it and see the positives that come out of this, going towards the NBA season. I know I'll be ready for that. I think for me, my mindset is focused on this and not really worrying about what's going on ahead right now."
🏀 Team USA head coach Steve Kerr, a man who has been around plenty of legends and leaders throughout his playing days and coaching career, has had plenty of praise for Brunson over the first few days of camp. When asked about who would guide the group on and off the floor, Kerr first mentioned JB.
"I think Jalen is such a natural leader," Kerr said. "Because he's a point guard, he immediately comes to mind. He's the one who's leading the '1, 2, 3 USA' chant. Some guys just, it just comes naturally to them."
