With the 2025 Summer League wrapped up, let's catch up on the latest NBA and Knicks news, shall we…
🏀 We can clear another potential Knicks target in free agency off the board, as Chris Paul has agreed to a one-year contract with the LA Clippers.
According to ESPN's Shams Charania, CP3 had multiple suitors, including the Milwaukee Bucks, Charlotte Hornets, and Dallas Mavericks; however, his preferred destination was California so that he could be close to his family. This will be Paul's 21st season, and is expected to be his swan song.
Interestingly, Shams also reports that as the Clippers were searching for a reserve point guard in the marketplace, they were "having conversations with Malcolm Brogdon as well -- but landed on Paul over the last seven days."
Brogdon, 32, is the best (unrestricted) point guard still available on the FA market. Yes, there are plenty of questions/concerns related to his injury issues and how much he has left in the tank, but he's a cut above the rest of the other PGs up for grabs.
If the Knicks' front office wants to fortify the backup PG position behind Jalen Brunson (which may be more of a priority following Tyler Kolek's struggles during Summer League action in Las Vegas), Brogdon might be an ideal candidate for a "win now" contender.
