The first night of free agency was frenzied, jam-packed with surprising signings and some unanticipated trades.

We'll get to the rest of the league in a bit, but let's begin with the Knicks, who are adding a much-needed offensive spark to bring in off the bench.

When word broke Monday morning that Jordan Clarkson was finalizing a contract buyout with the Utah Jazz and would be an unrestricted free agent, the Knicks were immediately mentioned as a potential landing spot. By late last night, several outlets had confirmed Clarkson's plans to sign with New York after he clears waivers on Wednesday, with the Post reporting he'll settle for the veteran's minimum (approximately $3.6 million).

This is a shrewd, solid move by Leon Rose and the Knicks' front office.

Look, does Clarkson have flaws? Yes. Are the defense, injury issues, and poor shooting percentages an issue? Yes.

However, let's not lose sight of the fact that New York entered this offseason (with a shoestring budget) desperately needing to upgrade its scoring production off the bench, and they just signed one of the best bench scorers in NBA history for peanuts.
