Another Pathetic Performance From The Knicks
RJ Barrett said, "teams get up to play in the Garden." ... Okay, but why don't the Knicks?
Jose Alvarado was born in Brooklyn and attended high school at Christ the King in Middle Village, Queens, before heading to Georgia Tech. After four years as a Yellow Jacket, Alvarado, who stands just 5'11", went undrafted. He ended up signing a two-way contract with New Orleans back in August and has split time with the Pelicans and their NBA G League affiliate, the Birmingham Squadron.
Over his first three months in the NBA, he appeared in 17 games, averaging 2.5 points while shooting 30.4% from the floor and 64.3% from the free-throw line.
Thursday night, in the Pelicans demolition of the Knicks at Madison Square Garden, Alvarado poured in a career-high 13 points (on 6-of-9 shooting) to go along with four assists (without committing a single turnover), four steals and a three-pointer across 20 minutes.
To put Thursday night in context, consider this:
* Jose Alvarado had more than three times as many points as Julius Randle.
* Jose Alvarado had twice as many assists as Knicks starting point guard Kemba Walker.
* Jose Alvarado had as many three-pointers as Knicks starting shooting guard Evan Fournier.
* Jose Alvarado had twice as many steals as the Knicks' entire starting five COMBINED.
After the game, Alvarado declared: "If you would have told me five years ago this would have happened, I wouldn't have believed you… it's a dream come true."
